Temporal Grammar Lab

Ways of Time

Explore sixteen temporal structures, six evidence layers, four comparison relationships, and a new builder that turns explicit representational properties into a transparent interface plan.

Choose a temporal shape before choosing a tradition. The geometry explains how a model organizes time; it does not certify the model as true.

What does the Timeline Lab do?

The Timeline Lab lets readers compare labeled interpretive scenarios, inspect sequences, follow shared concepts, test one-variable sensitivity, and export the resulting workspace. It keeps model assumptions visible instead of turning a diagram into a prediction.

Boundary: Position, proximity, and visual alignment do not establish elapsed time, fulfillment, identity, or equal confidence.

Do all religions teach an end of the world?

No. Some traditions describe final judgment or cosmic renovation, but others emphasize recurring worlds, liberation from rebirth, ancestral continuity, ritual maintenance, political restoration, or no identifiable final-world doctrine. Comparison must begin with each community’s own categories and sources.

Boundary: Calling every future-oriented teaching “eschatology” can impose a linear Christian template on unrelated traditions.

Representation without harmonization

A temporal shape is an interface grammar, not a universal theology. Tradition-specific content remains unpublished until source, specialist, language, and community review requirements are satisfied.

  • Never infer a visitor’s religion or identity.
  • Never rank traditions by truth, maturity, age, size, or similarity to Christianity.
  • Never generate an authoritative date for the end of the world.
  • Never merge distinct traditions into one harmonized timeline without named human review.
  • Never publish restricted or community-governed knowledge without explicit permission.
  • Never validate racial, biological, ethnic, national, or spiritual supremacy.

New representation planner

Turn temporal properties into an interface plan

Describe order, recurrence, intervals, anchors, future shape, scale, evidence layer, comparison permission, and publication authority. The builder recommends a geometry without inferring a religion or ranking beliefs.

Sixteen representational choices

Choose the shape that fits the question

A rail is only one option. Select a card to inspect what the shape can represent, where it fails, and which editorial boundary must remain visible.

Interface grammar

Symbolic time

Symbolic periods and qualitative numbers

A number carries literary or theological meaning without automatically functioning as a calendar duration.

Best used for
Symbolic intervals, schematic ages, and numerically structured visions.
Do not use it for
Automatic conversion into modern dates.
Required boundary
The calculation engine must remain disabled unless a visitor explicitly chooses a literal arithmetic scenario.
Illustrative applications
  • schematic weeks
  • visionary periods
  • qualitative sacred numbers

These examples orient interface design. They are not a complete or authoritative account of any living tradition.

Evidence before geometry

Six layers that must never be flattened

Two events can occupy the same visual position while belonging to different kinds of evidence. The interface must preserve that difference.

Primary text

What a foundational source explicitly states in its own literary context.

Historical event

A reconstructable event, artifact, institution, or social setting supported by historical evidence.

Traditional interpretation

A reading attributed to a named community, school, institution, or lineage.

Later reception

How later communities reused, transformed, politicized, ritualized, or contested an earlier source.

Modern reconstruction

A historical-critical, comparative, or technical model proposed by modern scholarship.

Speculative synthesis

A visitor-supplied scenario or explicitly modern creative framework, visually separated from historical claims.

Comparison without identity

Four honest relationship states

Similarity is not sameness. The strongest comparative tool is sometimes a visible refusal to harmonize.

Analogy

The concepts serve a similar broad function but remain distinct.

Partial overlap

Some features overlap while major differences remain.

Contested equivalence

A tradition or scholar proposes identity, while others dispute it.

Not comparable

Comparison would erase essential differences or violate a governance boundary.

The supplied reports are preserved privately and inform the architecture. Tradition-specific public models remain locked until the review conditions below are met.

Global temporal grammar Architecture Ready Available Design vocabulary and interface geometry are ready for public explanation.
Jewish temporal models Specialist Review Required Fail-closed Requires Jewish-studies review, calendar review, and explicit anti-supersession safeguards.
Expanded Christian models Specialist Review Required Fail-closed Requires denomination- and tradition-specific review beyond the current configured profiles.
Islamic eschatology Specialist Review Required Fail-closed Requires Arabic, hadith-methodology, and school-specific review; the Hour remains non-calculable.
Zoroastrian cosmic time Specialist Review Required Fail-closed Requires Avestan/Pahlavi source review and community review before public model release.
Hindu nested cosmologies Specialist Review Required Fail-closed Requires Sanskrit and tradition-specific review plus arbitrary-precision mathematics.
Buddhist temporalities Specialist Review Required Fail-closed Requires Pāli/Sanskrit/Tibetan/Chinese/Japanese source and school review.
East Asian renewal traditions Specialist Review Required Fail-closed Requires Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Daoist, Buddhist, and new-religion expertise.
African and African-diasporic temporalities Community Review Required Fail-closed Requires case-by-case community and language review; no pan-African composite model.
Indigenous and land-based temporalities Permission Gated Fail-closed Public representation remains fail-closed without explicit community authority and display permissions.
Sikh, Jain, Bahá’í, new-religious, and modern futures Specialist Review Required Fail-closed Each tradition remains a separate module; modern futures use a distinct epistemological horizon.

Modern futures layer

Cross the epistemological horizon deliberately

Climate, artificial intelligence, machine civilization, Human Continuance, space settlement, and interstellar scenarios may be explored as ethical or empirical futures. They must remain visually and semantically separate from primary religious texts, historical events, and traditional doctrine.
