Wars, nations, famine, earthquakes, and birth pains
TEXTExplicitConflict and disaster occur, but the discourse explicitly warns that the end is not yet and calls these events only the beginning of birth pains.
Ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. … All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Context and meaning
The passage names war reports, nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom, famines, and earthquakes. Its interpretive control is the warning attached to them: they do not, by themselves, prove that the end has arrived.
The birth-pain metaphor can suggest suffering that moves toward an outcome, but Matthew does not explicitly quantify global frequency, magnitude, or exponential acceleration. Claims about statistical trends belong to empirical analysis and must not borrow the certainty of the text's general prediction.
